Meet Our Team!

The people in our neighborhood

Brandon Hendrickson

Learning Architect and Founder

Brandon’s the founder of Science is WEIRD! (You can read more about that story here.)

But he’s taught a bunch of stuff. He was an elementary school teacher, he taught a semester of college, and led high school humanities seminars in such topics as moral economics, world religions, the philosophy of happiness, and the psychology of evil.

His favorite YouTube channels are SciShow and Kurzgesagt.

He’s lived in Milwaukee, Phoenix, and Seattle, and now resides in beautiful Rochester, Minnesota with his wife and two kids… where he wants to help build an adventure playground.

By the end of our first meeting, you had already changed what I want to do with my life.
— Sanjana, former student

He’s never happier than when he comes home from the library with a bag of new, shiny books, puts on some music, and stretches out on the floor to start reading.

Brandon teaches all of our stuff.

Angela Teater

Operations Manager

Angela loves words. She’s been writing – poetry, short stories, blog posts, essays, and anything else she can create on her laptop screen – since she was a small child. She’s started about 20 novels and finished one (a ratio she’d prefer not to think about).

When she’s not communicating in her preferred medium, she likes to hold intense philosophical discussions, eat pastries, and laugh as often and as loudly as possible.

Angela is the main contact for Science is WEIRD. She loves to communicate with parents and their children, and she’s happy to answer questions all day, every day.

If you need anything, please ask her, and if something is unclear, ask her again.

* “us” means “Angela”

Amy Teegarden

Science Advisor

Amy loves understanding the universe at as many levels as she can.

Although her degree is in bioengineering, she’ll happily spend her time reading about any scientific topic — from black holes to nuclear physics.

You can think of her as Brandon’s teacher — she does research to help build the lessons.

She likes cooking, photography, recreational math, and getting paid to assimilate new knowledge into her web of understanding.

Rumors that Amy is a cyborg have been slightly exaggerated.

She currently resides in Salem, Oregon.

Skylar Kaster

Lead Artist and Creative Manager

Skylar has been making art for as long as she can remember. She loves it so much that it’s her job, her hobby, and her degree.

Her favorite thing to draw is expressions, and enjoys doodling, making homemade bread, and finding characters in the sidewalk cracks.

Skylar makes our website illustrations, advertisements, and more.

Everything on this site that’s delightful and colorful has been made by her.

She lives in Portland, Oregon. You can see more of her work — and contact her about commissioning her — at skylarkaster.squarespace.com.

Kristin Hendrickson

Consigliere (and Secret Power Broker)

Kristin has taught students from preschool through college.

Was she a National Merit Scholar? Yes. Did she graduate summa cum laude from one of America’s top honors colleges? Yes. Was she her high school valedictorian? Yes!

She’s also worked as a Montessori teacher (for both preschool and upper elementary) and as a tutor in subjects like writing, math, and SAT/GRE prep.

She has a bachelor's degree in English and a Montessori teaching certificate.

She's currently homeschooling her three kids and working on curriculum & scheduling for Science is WEIRD.

She currently lives in Rochester, Minnesota. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, hiking, cooking, sewing, and playing the guitar.
